Hughes was a modern American poet. He would emphasize how the blacks lower-class life really was in his books which propelled himself as a major force of the Harlem Renaissance. Over his years of childhood Langston Hughes was all over the states. He was born February 1st 1902. Early after he was born his parents got a divorce, causing his father to move to Mexico and his mother went to Lincoln, Illinois. Hughes however lived with his grandmother up until he was 13 years old, then he had moved in with his mother and step father. Later on they moved too Cleveland Ohio and decided to settle down there. Hughes has made multiple accomplishments throughout his life span. Some of these accomplishments are Hughes writing his first autobiography during WWII. At one point he even got involved into politics during the year of 1932-1933. He was in the Soviet Union that year, leading to Hughes writing short stories. He was very good at them too, in fact after he had written short stories he picked up children stories. Hughes has always loved kids, he was so happy to write for them. He also wrote a few plays throughout his life. He wrote both comedies and historical dramas. However despite all of these accomplishments his biggest accomplishment was him writing poetry. He was very famous for his poems, he started writing poetry back when he live in Lincoln, Illinois with his mother and step father. He liked writing about African Americans lives and past, informing people about what really happened in the past. Hughes first poetry book published was called "The weary Blues". Then his next poetry book published was called "Fine clothes to the Jew". The fact Hughes had such a strong passion to write to kids was a big way he influenced children, even adults. Making kids smile, be happy and giving them hope in this world. It meant a huge deal to people. Therefore are some ways Langston Hughes influenced people in his life. However my favorite quote by Hughes was, "An artist must be free to choose what he does, certainly, but he must also never be afraid to do what he might choose" . This was my favorite quote by Hughes, simply because it speaks to me in a way that, you have your own mind, mouth and will. You should be able to do the things that you want to do, because an artist is unique. They express everything about themselves because nobody is exactly the same. So this is why i enjoy this quote by Hughes the most out of the many that he has wrote.
